Arab Cistern Palace of Weathervanes (Palacio de las Veletas). Provincial Museum

Palace of Weathercocks keeps important architectural elements, among which stands out the Arab cistern (perhaps Almoravid), one of the most attractive construction of Cáceres. The cistern was excavated in the rock in the 12th century under the foundations of the primitive fortress. It's formed by horseshoe arches and barrel vaults supported by Roman-origin granite columns. Nothing compares to it in Spain, being the second biggest in the world, behind only that of Istambul.

Patio.

It's worth visiting inside the Provincial Museum and the cistern. Also interesting is its courtyard with granite columns and arches on its two floors, built by Lorenzo de Ulloa in 1600.

Also noteworthy is the ceramic balustrade, topped with pinnacles and gargoyles (also in ceramic), which people mistook for weathervanes, wherefrom the Palace is named.
