Palace of Mayoralgo. Head Office of Caja de Extremadura

The Palace of Mayoralgo rises with a beautiful façade (sturdy and sober at once), presenting Gothic elements, where the ensemble beauty lies in the following elements:

Its construction is dated between 1534 and 1538. Inside there's an older courtyard which preserves remains of Moorish arches as well as Visigothic capitals embedded in its walls. In addition there's a series of coats of arms belonging the different families related with this lineage. Besides, there's a beautiful marble statue of a Roman Lady (whose head is missing) over a granite podium, which is one of the few samples of Roman sculpture in our city (together with the sculpture of the goddess Ceres). These features evoke a peacefulness feeling because of so much accumulated history.

Nowadays it's the head office of Caja de Extremadura bank.
