Church and Convent of the Society of Jesus

The Church and the Monastery of the Society of Jesus exhibit a stunning perspective of height and strength seen from the St George's Square.

Some architectural elements which are commons to another Jesuit buildings can be seen in its façades.

Church's façade has twin towers, a portal with columns in two floors (twin columns in ground floor), which is topped with an broken pediment. It was finished in 1755, twelve years before the Society of Jesus was supressed in Spain (1767). It's a single-nave Church, having a crossing with dome and side chapels. It contains an interesting picture of St Francis Xavier in the centre of the altarpiece. Currently is deconsecrated and dedicated to exhibitions.

The Monastery was used for many years as an education center but currently is used as a head office of the Regional Ministry for Culture and Tourism. Under the cloister's courtyard there's an impressive cistern, recently opened to the public.
