Soap and Cream Summary

As reflected in the report of the workshop, its objectives were to provide students with the necessary skills in making homemade soap and give them instructions on the necessary mechanisms to put up a business, in order to seeking self-employment.

The experience was enriching for both, the students and  the teachers responsible for teaching the workshop.

Note that these students are in a special administrative status, they are deprived of the most precious thing that humans possess: FREEDOM.

On this basis, we can understand that any activity we plan and develop with them will be very well received; therefore we worked with a highly motivated and group of students.

We must be very careful in dealing with these students and supervise the ingredients we work with, especially caustic soda. So, we decided to work in small groups to have a better control of the group.

We cannot provide personal information or images of inmates, as it is forbidden by the Ministry of Interior.

Some of the prisoners knew the process of soapmaking since their mothers or grandmothers were used to do it. However, this workshop gave them the tools to develop a small business.

When we finished the workshop, all the soaps we made were distributed among inmates. They were really happy.
