Third International Meeting. Lecce. Italy

October 16th to 18th 2014

Educating Entrepreneurs in Traditional Crafts and Arts

Third International Meeting. Lecce. Italy

Hello!

My name´s Juan Fernández Merchán, one of the students at CEPA Martín Cisneros School in Cáceres.

In the first place, I´d like to thank the school and all the teachers in charge of this Grundtvig project for inviting me to take part of it. In the past academic year I participated in the workshop ‘Painting on fans’, which lasted from February to May.I’d also like to say thank you to all of them because they gave me the chance of travelling and visiting the Italian city of Lecce.

Before starting the journey, I could feel the good emotions coming from both the teachers and Jacinta, the other student who was also coming to Lecce.

The first day, after a long tiring journey, everything happened as we had planned, although we had an annoying problem: Jacinta’s case was lost. It didn´t get to the airport in Lecce. This problem was solved the following day, but the most remarkable thing was how well and sympathetic Jacinta showed herself, probably because all of us gave her our help.

With regard to the workshops in the art gallery in Lecce, I can say that we´ve learnt something completely unknown to most of us: how to make handicrafts with papier-mâché, a malleable mixture of paper and glue, which becomes hard when dry and can be painted and adorned. This art is locally called ‘cartapesta’. We tried to do our best, we also helped each other. The result was not too bad, but the most outstanding thing was the good atmosphere among all the participants in the workshop.

We were also offered a guided tour in the old part in Lecce, which proved to be really interesting because the locals told us the most curious details and anecdotes of the uncountable monuments and buildings in Lecce. After this tour, the Italian group invited us to have dinner in a typical restaurant. All the members of the project attended the meal, which gave us the opportunity to swap opinions and impressions on the meeting, as well as many other.

The second day we went on a trip to visit a fair in Miggiano, a village in the same Italian area. There we were welcome by the local authorities, who were very kind to all of us. They explained to all of us the European projects which they were involved in and how the artisan fair was organised.

All of this made us enjoy very little free time, but it was really worth it. The third day we flew back and we went through the same problem at the airport: another case got lost!! This time, already in Spain, but fortunately it is over.

This trip has given me a really positive encouraging experience. I have learned a lot, in all the aspects! However the most important point I’d like to highlight is the WONDERFUL ATMOSPHERE, PARTNERSHIP, HELP, HARD WORK, SYMPATHY, UNDERSTANDING, PATIENCE, …among all the Spanish team. Both teachers and pupils have enjoyed an unforgettable experience. For this reason , I’ll find it really difficult to get rid of this amazing experience!
